the ghost touch came for my kindle

I mentioned a couple of times before how much I wanted to have a Kindle. I wanted and desired and literally willed for myself to have this. It took a lot of self-convincing and hesitation... then on April this year, I saw one for sale in an e-reader group, a preloved device with a price I thought was both realistic and a good deal. I guess, I ended up following the advice of not splurging too much first in case I'm not an e-reader reader after all, so I just spent maybe more than half of its SRP.

When I first got it, I was fascinated and excited and just wanted to use it all the time. Okay, acquiring books to read isn't the same as before when I was on my phone but that was fine. Sometimes my pace is too fast and I get to finish 3 books in less than 2 weeks and I have to go through that extra step of sending to kindle again but I swear I thought it was fine. Having to charge another device, the extra weight and another thing to grip and carry around - those are fine.

Then, July came and I experienced ghost touches :') I changed the screen protector and reset the whole thing but after a few weeks it came back again. This specific issue absolutely did not help me trying to transition and adjust to using an e-reader. The cycle of resetting and cleaning happened a couple more times. I was so frustrated and started doubting myself because of this horrible outcome from a decision of buying a preloved device. I wallowed at the fact that this is the first time I bought something for myself at this price and this is what happens.

By September, I started to use my phone to read again. Somehow, reading on my phone keeps me from doomscrolling1 since my brain is presented with two choices of social media and books and reading is always the obvious one.

Of course, no one's stopping me from reading on both my phone and my Kindle - but when I bought it, I thought that when I have it, I'd never not use it. It's a device with a single purpose and I've been keeping up with my reading habit for a couple of years now and I haven't stopped, but I've since lost my momentum on that.

It's October now and the Kindle has taken up a semi-permanent residence in my work bag, barely opened in the past couple of weeks. I such had high expectations for it and for myself to use it all the time like I'll never part with it but I guess this is just one of those times when what I wanted isn't exactly what I needed.

I know I really should have just bought something brand new ...! We have no Amazon service centers here and from what I've read this issue has been around for a long time. I don't know if I should just try to jailbreak it or something because I definitely can't buy a new one now. Poverty is expensive if you know what I mean.

If anyone ever experienced this and got to fix it, please let me know. I'm about to try this fix I read from Reddit and hope for the best.
